of legendary musicians and today's top stars! Each iSong pack includes
arrangements ranging from very simple to note-accurate transcriptions,
a performance video, and a virtual fretboard or keyboard, all in one wholly
interactive environment. No matter what your skill level, or
whether or not you read music, iSong is a great way to learn
songs you've always wanted to play! Each iSong CD-ROM features six innovative
teaching tools in a state-of-the-art interactive environment:
Learning from the Legends iSong's Power To Play™ CD-ROMs sync the original master recordings of legendary musicians and contemporary stars with breakthrough interactive learning tools and techniques, including an animated score, a virtual instrument, and video instruction. You can switch from the artist's recording to MIDI on the fly and everything will stay in sync.
1. Animated Score and TAB
|
iSong's animating scores are transcribed from the original artist's recording by professional musicians. Even if you don't read music, you can follow the score and get a lot of information about the song; while you do it, you hear the master recording of the song.
Guitar Songs: Chord names are indicated in black letters above the notation staff. Green notes indicate the melody; red notes in the standard notation staff indicate strings to be played; blue notes in the TAB staff indicate finger positions on the fretboard. (Red and blue notes appear in the same staff to highlight a second voice.) The string and fret numbers are indicated in the TAB staff with black numbers.
Keyboard songs: Black numbers above the notes indicate fingering. Green notes indicate the melody; red notes indicate the notes to be played with the right hand; blue notes indicate the notes to be played with the left hand.
|
2. iLevels
|
iSong's patented iLevels let you pick an arrangement that suits your skill and performance ability, all the while keeping you synced to the original artist's recording. The highest level is the note-accurate transcription of the song as performed by the artist. The lower levels are simplified arrangements that still preserve the basic song structure and the essential patterns that make up the song. iLevels also contain transcriptions of other instrument parts.
|
3. Artist Recording
|
Listen to the original track as you learn to play. Or toggle between the artist's original recording and MIDI performances.
|
4. Tempo Control
|
Play at your own speed. The score, virtual instrument, and performance video will move at your pace. To slow down the tempo, select MIDI ON and then adjust the tempo to a comfortable speed. To return to the artist's recording, toggle MIDI ON back to ARTIST ON
|
5. Virtual Fretboard/Keyboard
|
Shows note position, note name, finger numbers, and trails (patterns). To see finger numbers, select SHOW FINGERING under the Enable Tab in the Setup Window.
Guitar songs: Red dots indicate when a string is hit; blue dots indicate finger positions on the fretboard; blue circles show open strings. Click on any string on the virtual fretboard to hear the note at that position and see its name.
Keyboard songs: Green notes indicate the melody; red notes indicate notes to be played with the right hand; blue notes indicate notes to be played with the left hand. Click on any key to hear the note and see its name.
|
6. Control Panel
|
From left to right, the buttons on the control panel are Stop, Pause, Play, Loop, Setup, Audio/Video Preferences, and Change View (Instrument Orientation), Page Forward/Back.
Setup Button: Controls animation settings, audio and MIDI, rhythm, page advance, and trails (patterns).
- Change View Button:
- Guitar songs: With the Change View button selected, the guitar fretboard reflects the Performance Video; with it deselected, you see the fretboard as described in the TAB staff.
Piano songs: On piano songs, selecting the Change View button displays the 60-note keyboard with note names and Middle C indicated in gray.
Looping Function: This is the circular arrow located in the Control Panel. It allows you to repeatedly play passages you have selected. When you select your passage, red tabs will appear to indicate the beginning and end points of playback. Then press the Loop button.
|
7. Video Instruction
|
The performance video syncs to the master recordings and the animated score and shows one of our professional musicians performing the song. The video box is free-floating with a grow button that lets you enlarge it so you can really see detail in the fingering. And you can slow the video down, too.
- The Main button returns you to the Contents Page for more songs.
- The Tune button on guitar songs allows you to click on any string, just behind the nut, to hear and see the note.
- At the top of each Player Screen a Help Menu explains features, functions, commands, and shortcuts.
