One of the big hits off Jagged Little Pill, "Ironic" is a great example of pop songwriting. The acoustic-oriented tune added a new dimension to Alanis' audience base by crossing over to the adult-contemporary audience without alienating her dedicated rock following. "Ironic" shows many nice textures with various acoustic and electric guitars layered throughout. As an iSong, "Ironic" lends itself nicely to arrangements for all levels of players.

The first huge hit from Jagged Little Pill, "You Oughta Know" put Alanis on the map as a voice demanding to be heard. Its heavy sound and shocking lyrics sent the song over the top on the charts and established Alanis as a pop-diva deluxe. The guitar playing is perfect for intermediates, but the song also breaks down nicely for beginners in the iLevels. There's also a transcription of the impressive driving bass part. Inspired by a journey to India, "Baba" is one of the first hits off Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. With what has been described as her usual "confrontational poise," Alanis explores spiritual questions. The song makes use of melodic and harmonic elements that are characteristic of Eastern Europe and parts of India, creating an exotic sound that complements the lyrics. Definitely for the more hard-rock crowd, "Baba" is easy and fun to play.

Another keeper from Jagged Little Pill, "You Learn" showcases Alanis at her most clever wordsmithing. Learning from past mistakes always makes good fodder for pop music, as this tune's catchy lyrics aptly demonstrate. "You Learn" features a great strummed acoustic part that's ideal for beginners wanting to get to the next level. There's a good guitar solo as well for more-advanced players.

This great high-energy rock offering from Jagged Little Pill features some very Zeppelinesque acoustic and electric guitar parts, thickly layered throughout. "Right Through You" is very easy to play - perfect for beginners who want a song that is very satisfying to grasp. The iSong notation shows some interesting ways of indicating such effects as feedback and distortion.

As interesting lyrically as it is musically, "Unsent" collages together bits of letters to former lovers. The song structure is reminiscent of the chaconne of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in which the theme is not a melody but a sequence of chords. The structure of the song unfolds by the variations that come out of each repetition, bound by the consistency of the chord progression. "Unsent" is impressive to see notated because the vocal parts are somewhat speechlike in their rhythmic character. Musically, the song evokes folk-oriented artists such as Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, or Jewel. There are some excellent acoustic parts transcribed here - ideal for players on any level.
