Peter Magadini has led a busy life. Born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, in 1942, he played his first drums at age six. The family later relocated to Phoenix, where his parents brought him to a Duke Ellington concert when he was fifteen. It was then that he decided to get a drum set. While attending the San Francisco Conservatory, Magadini worked with such luminaries as George Duke, Al Jarreau and John Heard before later going on tour for a year with Diana Ross. Since then, he has worked with Don Menza, Mose Allison, Don Ellis, Sonny Stitt, Barney Kessel, The Toronto Symphony and many others. He has recorded for the Motown, A&M, Sackville, Timeless and Briko labels. Magadini is also a respected teacher and author of several acclaimed books.

In addition Peter has several recordings released internationally. These include: The Pete Magadini Quintet "Night Dreamers" on Timeless Records (Holland), the award winning CD "Bones Blues" with Don Menza, Wray Downes and Dave Young and Don Menza-Pete Magadini "Live at Claudio's" both released on Sackville Records (Toronto).

Peter is also an educator and the author of several popular well known volumes including "Musicians Guide to Polyrhythms" (voted number six on Modern Jazz Drummer Magazine's list of the 25 greatest books of all time) - Hal Leonard Publishing.

Mr.Magadini holds degrees from both the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (BM) and the University of Toronto (MM), and includes among his teachers, drummers Don Bothwell and Roy Burns, N.Y. Philharmonic Timpanist, Roland Kohloff and North Indian tabla master Mahapurush Misra. Peter has taught drums at Concordia University and McGill University. He currently resides in Marin County, California, just north of San Francisco.
